Contexte

The German-Senegalese textile partnership is a project which aims to actively participate in the revival of the Senegalese textile industry. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and supported by Sequa GmbH. Activities in Senegal are implemented and coordinated by GESAMTMASCHE (Confederation of the German Knitwear Industry).

In partnership with SODEFITEX, the main aim of the project is to increase organic cotton production yields in Senegal. To achieve this, a system of farmer field schools has been in place since the 2022-2023 season. The program operates specifically in the cotton-growing area of Tambacounda, and more specifically in the villages of Missirah, Koussanar and Koungheul.

In addition to increasing organic cotton production, the project aims to support the entire textile value chain. In order to highlight the project’s achievements, but also to determine future steps, we would like to carry out a sustainability study.

Tender specifications:
The consultant will carry out the following tasks:

  • Develop the structure of the sustainability study. Ensure that the essential aspects are taken into account in the sustainability study, such as:
    • Taking into account the different dimensions of sustainability;
    • Clearly determining the current situation in these areas;

  • If necessary, develop short questionnaires and/or other instruments to address outstanding issues.
  • Support for data collection still required.
  • Begin successive integration of identified data into study structure.
  • Where appropriate, meet with stakeholders, such as SODEFITEX, to identify aspects of support and funding for important first steps towards sustainability.
  • Establishment of a to-do list before the return of the contractor, so that the various steps required to finalize the study are clearly identified.
